Our Viticulture Means Business

Overmountain Vineyards

Frank and Lita Lilly have long held on to a vision of restoring their farm to the vineyards of years past. Their fertile 75 acres in the Green Creek area of Polk County has finally grown into their dream when they first planted their vines in 2002. Today, Overmountain Vineyards, with its winery and tasting room, has become recognized as one of North Carolina’s signature vineyards, offering Cabernet Savuginon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The winery’s premium wine is Petit Manseng. Frank and Lita are happy to tell visitors that their farm was previously a vineyard in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Also, by many accounts, Cherokee Indians lived in teepees on Mill Creek, located on the side of the property. “We couldn’t have found a better place to see our dream come true. The soil, the weather, the community—all combined it makes for a great place to live and work,” says Frank.
